Disaffected and passionate, seventeen-year-old Lucy Parker-Patel tries to find some meaning in the world’s major religions. So, when her father, a theology instructor at a Roman Catholic seminary, suggests she explore her thoughts and come to her exclusive conclusions, Lucy sets out on a journey that will change her life forever.

During her studies, the brilliant teenager meets Janak Rai, a mysterious young Buddhist monk who has lost his memory in a terror attack on Nepal’s British Embassy. But the attack was not random - a powerful, sinister group is determined to obstruct the new message of hope from one known as
The Sign. They sense the message is coming to influence humanity and will stop at nothing to prevent it from spreading throughout humankind. They suspect Janak is this emissary of hope and watch his every move. Lucy and Janak become friends and meet Bridget Byron, the beautiful and enigmatic daughter of a local MP and billionaire financier. Despite a rocky start, the friends develop a bond that gradually deepens.

The teenagers begin to see the world in a new light, understanding that a patriarchal society is not ideal and it’s time for a change. Janak believes this transformation will involve a more feminine approach, and he wonders if Lucy could be the catalyst for this long-awaited transition to a kinder world.
